BECNEL

PAULINA – James Moffet Becnel, 81, a native of Vacherie and resident of Albany, Ga., for the past 16 years, died May 23. He was the husband of Luella Lamb Becnel and father of Kenneth and Paul Becnel.

He was the brother of Aline Ferniz and the late Phillip, Hennessey and Aurelius Becnel Jr., Noemie Rome, Aimee Brignac, Denise Rome and Thelma Schexnayder.

He is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.

Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

CARTER

MARRERO – Nora Schouest Carter, 32, a native of Lutcher and resident of Gray, died May 24. She was the daughter of Shirley Perez Broussard, stepdaughter of Lester Broussard and sister of Leona Boudreaux and Herbert, Harris Jr. and the late Hagan Schouest Sr.

Services are today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Avondale. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

HICKMAN

LAPLACE – Opal K. Hickman, 79, a native of Florida, former resident of Metairie and resident of LaPlace for the past three years, died May 24. She was the mother of Gary and Kenny Hickman.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were May 28 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, Wellborn, Fla.

JACOB

RESERVE – Oscar J. Jacob Jr., 65, a native and resident of Reserve, died May 23. He was the husband of Jane Bossier Jacob and father of Fran St. Pierre and Yancey, Shellie and Tech Sgt. Chad Jacob.

He was the son of Blanche Vicknair and the late Oscar Jacob Sr., stepson of the late Clinton Schouest Vicknair Sr. and brother of Myrna Bradey, Jude and Robin Vicknair, Christy Falcon, Tamara LeBlanc and Lea Marino.

He is also survived by six grandchildren.

Services were May 27 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery.

LANDRY

NORCO – Harvey J. Landry Sr., 77, a native of Garyville and resident of Norco, died May 23. He was the husband of Georgia D. Landry and father of Harvey Jr., Harold, Barry and the late Eric and Jason Landry.

He was the son of the late Orphe and Eva Landry and brother of Norris Byron and Lloyd and the late Clarence and Jessie Landry.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a counterman for Shell Oil Company and a former employee of National Gypsum, Celotex and GATX, served as a private first class in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 195 and Knights of Columbus.

Services were May 27 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

ORY

EDGARD – Bernice Barre Ory, 88, a native and resident of Edgard, died May 23. She was the wife of Michael Ory and mother of Gwendolyn Tartavoulle, Carol Wall and Dr. M. Dirk Ory.

She was the daughter of the late Placide and Nellie Joseph Barre and sister of Marjorie Davies and the late Odell, Melvin and Hennon Barre.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were May 27 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.

TROXCLAIR

PLAQUEMINE – Hazel Rome Troxclair, 90, a native of Edgard and resident of Plaquemine, died May 24. She was the wife of the late Telesphore Troxclair and mother of Evelyn Varnell, Larry Troxclair and the late Eloise Gilpatrick and Arthemise Troxclair.

She was the daughter of the late Ludger Jr. and Therese Rome and sister of Thelma Abadie, Therese Hebert, Harold, Ludger III, Clarence, Ronald and Claude Rome and the late Earline Berthelot and Lester, Louis and Lovincy Rome.

She is survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine, with interment at Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

WARREN

LAPLACE – The Rev. Raphield Warren Sr., 70, a native of Montz and resident of LaPlace for many years, died May 23. He was the husband of the late Rosie Brumfield Warren and father of Janet Orosco and Harold, Raphield Jr., Adrian, Gary and Annette Warren.

He was the son of the late Bishop Joseph and Mary Hoffman Warren and brother of Evola Keller, Cloria Clark, Selina Paul, Mary Boatner and the Rev. Samuel and the Rev. Benjamin Warren.

He is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Providence Rest Haven Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

DARROW – Terence Gerard “Terry” Wilson, 20, a native and resident of Convent, died May 23. He was the son of Ulysses Jones Sr. and Troy Wilson and brother of Cherelle Allen and Quianne White.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Word of Life Christian Center, Darrow, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
