DYBENDAL

LAPLACE – George A. Dybendal Jr., 34, a resident of LaPlace, died March 26. He was the son of Kathy and the late George Dybendal Sr. and brother of Patricia McTyre, Angela Murray and Virginia Dybendal.

Services were March 28 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

ESTER

CONVENT – Brooks Ester, 78, a native and resident of Convent, died March 26. He was the husband of Ollie Hamilton and father of Louise Howard, Brenda Wenzy, Doris Ealey and Helen, Johnny, Joseph, Earl and Allen Hamilton.

He was the brother of Theodore and Edward Ester and was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

He survived by 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired boiler room operator.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, Convent, with interment at the church cemetery.

GASSENBERGER

MARRERO – Robin Jan Gassenberger Sr., 47, a native of Westwego and resident of Des Allemands for 25 years, died March 26. He was the husband of Arlene Danos Gassenberger and father of Robin Jr., Brittany and Scott Gassenberger.

He was the son of Frank and the late Arizona Chiasson Gassenberger and brother of the late Parris Gassenberger.

Services are today at noon in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Des Allemands. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

GAUDET

LAPLACE – Mary Helen Madere Gaudet, 73, a native and resident of LaPlace, died March 27. She was the wife of Edward Gaudet Sr. and mother of Edward Gaudet Jr.

She was the daughter of the late Willie and Loretta Madere and sister of Julie Vicknair and the late Loretta Wilson, Juliette Banquer, Winnie Vicknair and Junius, Joseph and Murphy Madere.

She is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are April 1 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 9 a.m. Monday.

KENDRICK

LUTCHER – Willie James “Shot” Kendrick Sr., 63, a native of Greensburg and a resident of Reserve, died March 23. He was the husband of Donna Jean Perrilloux Kendrick and father of Doreen Sanders, Tanya Edwards, Valerie Jackson and Willie Jr., Troy, Jason, Trina and Neka Kendrick.

He was the son of the late Ben and Lula Kendrick and brother of Georgia Mae Leonard, Evelyn Roux, Brenda Hughley, Sharon Hicks, Robert Kendrick and the late Marie Coleman, Earl Euril and Charles Kendrick.

He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were March 28 at First Community Antioch Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at Turner Chapel Cemetery, Greensburg.

INSLEY

AVONDALE – Inez Sonntag Insley, 65, a native of Dundalk, Md., and resident of Luling for 26 years, died March 24. She was the wife of Vernon Insley and mother of Denise Butera, Diane Deroche and Simon, Brian and Barry Insley.

She was the sister of Elda and Allen Sonntag.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

Services were March 27 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Avondale, with interment at Lorraine Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.

PORTERA

DESTREHAN – Margaret “Maggie” Mule Portera, 93, a native of Norco and lifelong resident of Destrehan, died March 26. She was the wife of the late Cosimo Portera and mother of Mary Waguespack and the late Salvador Sr. and Calogero Portera Sr.

She was the daughter of the late Calogero and Mary Gulotta Mule and sister of Rose Zummo, Mary Stipelcovich, Fay Zuppardo, Marie Mancuso and the late Josephine Mancuso, Catherine Rizzuto and Jack, Peter and Mike Mule.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services were March 28 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment at the church mausoleum.

RUSHTON

STAMPS, Ark. – Charles “Bubba” Rushton, 64, a native of Stamps, Ark, and resident of Garyville for the past 20 years, died March 26. He was the husband of Dorothy Rushton and stepfather of Alisha Luque.

He was the son of Evelyn Rushton, stepson of Loyce Wheelington and brother of Ruth Fryar, Linda Britt and Mrs. Neil Bustin.

He is also survived by three grandchildren.

He was a pipefitter and welder for EMI and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Services were March 29 in the chapel of A.O. Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Ark., with interment at Liberty Baptist Church, Stamps.

TURNER

BOUTTE – Bernard “Joe-Joe” Turner, 49, a native of Boutte and resident of Marrero, died March 26. He was the husband of Elaine Turner and father of Jarvis and Eliska Turner.

He was the son of the Rev. John and Lillian Dorsey and Clementine Turner Pearman, stepson of Wesley Pearman and brother of Ona Truesdales, Nina Battles and Curtis Turner.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Boutte, with interment at Mt. Airy Park Cemetery, Boutte. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
