DEAN

LULING – Enid Ruth Gassen Dean, 78, a longtime resident of Luling, died March 23. She was the wife of Samuel Earl Dean Jr. and mother of Herbert and Keith Dean Sr.

She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Elmire Mollere Gassen and sister of Perryl Gassen.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Luling, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Luling. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

LANDRY

DALLAS – Houston Joseph Landry, 82, a native of Garyville, a former resident of Houston and Marrero and resident of Dallas died March 6. He was the husband of Vivian M. Landry and father of Larry and Lonny Landry.

He was the son of the late W.P. Sr. and Lucille D. Landry and brother of Jewel Alleman and the late Victory Nash, Ruby Holliday and Earl and W.P. Landry Jr.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were held at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors in Dallas.

LEWIS

NEW ORLEANS – Jean Alfreda Champagne Lewis, 65, a native of Killona and resident of New Orleans, died March 20. She was the wife of Gilbert Lewis Jr. and mother of Gilda Davis and Consuella, Don and Gilbert Lewis III.

She was the daughter of Lithesia Lagrue Champagne and the late George Champagne and sister of Marva Batiste.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was a retired cosmetologist.

Services were March 25 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, New Orleans.

SCHEXNAYDER

VACHERIE – Gaston Joseph Schexnayder Jr., a native of Vacherie and resident of Beaumont, Texas, died March 25. He was the father of Susan Dougherty and Mary Ann, Stephen, and the late Glenn Schexnayder.

He was the son of the late Gaston Sr. and Laura Marie Waguespack Schexnayder and brother of Clara Mae Landry, Hubert Schexnayder and the late Kathleen Zeringue.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Donaldsonville. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

TROXLER

MARRERO – Martin Joseph Troxler, 75, a native of Hahnville and resident of Waggaman, died March 21. He was the hsuband of Helen Kemp and father of Paula Heap and David Troxler.

He was the son of the late Ella Bourgeois and Myrtile Troxler and brother of Elva Donnaud, Retta Champagne and Leander and Leonard Troxler.

He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were March 23 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.

VERRET

RESERVE – Myrtice Verret, 78, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace, died March 24. She was the mother of Marie Varnado and Roy Verret Sr.

She was the sister of Joyce Harrison, Bernita Tollison, Lois Devall and Norma Triche.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She ws a retired nurse’s aide at Charity Hospital.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

WAGUESPACK

NEW ORLEANS – Guy J. Waguespack Sr., 87, a native of Vacherie and resident of Metairie for the past 30 years, died March 22. He was the husband of Rose McLin Waguespack and father of Helen Hasselbeck, Jean Faulkner and Alwin, Raymond, Roy and Guy Waguespack Jr.

He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was a retired night watchman.

Services were March 25 in the chapel of P.J. McMahon & Son Funeral Home, New Orleans, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
