ALLEMAND
HARVEY – Lucille Cortez Allemand, 78, a native of Vacherie and resident of Marrero, died March 5. She was the mother of Barbara Holdforth, Catherine Gauthreaux and Richard and Maeve “Paul” Allemand.
She was the daughter of the late Marclien and Florence Dempster Cortez and sister of Lucia Rodrigue, Lucette Madere, Louisia Boudreaux, Louisiana Scioneaux, Lucien, Felecien, Louis and Lewie Cortez and the late Lucrece Page.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were March 8 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Harvey, with interment at Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale.
CARTER
NEW SARPY – Wilma Elizabeth Carter, 57, a native of New Roads and resident of Norco for 33 years, died March 1. She was the mother of Avery Carter.
She was the daughter of Nolan and Ernestine Carter and sister of Dorothy Pedescleaux, Lois Carter, Rachel Herbert, Georgia Davis, John and Leroy Ephrom and the late Myra Gremillion and Joseph, Willie and Charles.
She was a clerk at Bill’s Dollar Store, Norco, and previously employed at Albert Cammon Middle School, St. Rose.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Sixth Ward Baptist Church, New Roads, with interment at the church cemetery.
GAUTREAUXHAYES
CONVENT – Irvin Hayes Sr., 59, a native and resident of Convent, died March 5. He was the husband of Betty Banks Hayes and father of Terri Russell and Shellie, Darrell Sr. and Irvin Hayes Jr.
He was the son of the late Henry Jr. and Thelma Perkins Hayes, stepson of Alma Hayes and brother of Anthony Hayes.
He is also survived by five grandchildren.
He was a retired supervisor for Agrico Chemical Co.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
HILL
DES ALLEMANDS – Dean Everett Hill, 41, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died March 5. He was the father of Dean Hill Jr.
He was the son of Milton and Elizabeth Hill and brother of Tyrone and Galen Hill and Kenneth and Zendre Jones.
He is also survived by one grandchild.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, Des Allemands, with interment at Shell Mound Cemetery, Des Allemands. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
HUBBELL
VACHERIE – Cecile Laiche Hubbell, 92, a resident of Vacherie, died March 5. She was the mother of Cecile Blanchard, Marie Frilot and Philip Jr., James, Dr. Gerald and Charles Hubbell.
She was the sister of Patsy Radecker, Catherine Biaimonte, Ursula Helmsteter, Claire, Sister Estelle, Theresa, Beatrice, Louis Jr., Emile, Paul and Felix Laiche and the late Edvige Henderson, George, Numa and Antoine and Pierre Laiche.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 7 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.
HYMEL
PAULINA – Elta Brignac “Nannie” Hymel, 84, a native of Paulina and resident of Gramercy, died March 5. She was the wife of 39 years of the late Hillard “Castet” Hymel.
She was the daughter of the late Paul and Virginia Brignac and sister of Gertrude Melancon.
She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were March 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.
JOHNSON
LUTCHER – The Rev. Louis Rex Johnson, 69, a native and resident of Lutcher, died March 1. He was the husband of Eva Dennis Johnson and father of Takisha Johnson.
He was the brother of Emma Lee and Christine, Addie, Alonzo Sr., Israel Jr. and James Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, was pastor of Israelite Baptist Church in Lutcher and a retired teacher for the St. James Parish School Board at Lutcher High School.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at King David Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at New St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
MATHERNE
METAIRIE – Doris Marie Champagne Matherne, 82, a native of Edgard and resident of New Orleans for the past 66 years, died March 4. She was the wife of Jules Matherne Sr. and mother of Glendolyn “Glendy” Forster and Sharon and Jules “J.G.” Matherne Jr.
She is also survived by four grandchildren.
Services were March 6 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at All Saints Mausoleum.
ROUSSEL
NORCO – Ralph J. “Bozo” Roussel, 73, a resident of Norco, died March 5. He was the husband of Mary Badeaux Roussel and father of Melissa L’Hoste, Kelly Laiche and Ralph “Tootie” Jr. and Daryl Roussel.
He was the son of the late William and Lizzie St. Pierre Roussel and brother of Mary Anne Millet, Lewis Roussel and the late Bernice Breaud, Yvonne Schexnaydre, Stelma Simoneaux and O’Leary and Bruce Roussel.
He is also survived by six grandchildren.
Services were March 8 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.
ROYBISKIE
EDGARD – Joyce Grace Roussell Roybiskie, 72, a native of Vacherie and resident of Edgard, died March 4. She was the wife of Raymond Roybiskie, mother of Donnie Sr., Christine, Dana, JoAnn, Terry and the late Raymond Jr., Ronnie and Vernon Roybiskie Sr. and guardian of Dannette Harris and Cornelius Roussell.
She was the daughter of the late Harold and Theresa Roussell, stepdaughter of Daisy Roussell, sister of the late Mildred Roussell and stepsister of Albany Jones, Gwendolyn Frank, Victoria Schofield, Diann Joseph and Harold, Michael and Germaine Roussell.
She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was a retired food technician with the St. John Parish School system.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at St. Philip Cemetery, Vacherie. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.
SLACK
ST. ROSE – Louella Mae Slack, 70, a native and resident of St. Rose, died March 5. She was the wife of the late Charles Slack and mother of Bardell Taylor and Sherman, Pamela and Natalie Slack.
She was the daughter of the late Florence Joseph and Titus Royal and sister of Thelma Smith, Hattie Deggs and Titus Jr., Charles Sr. and the late Paul Royal Sr.
She is also survived by five grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Fifth African Baptist Church, St. Rose, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
THOMPSON
DARROW – William L. Thompson, 29, a native of Geismar and resident of Convent, died March 4. He was the husband of Nedria Cutno Thompson and father of Dezmond, Tevin and Christion Thompson.
He was the son of June and the late Josephine Parms Thompson and brother of Judy Mackyeon, Pedra Cutno and Kevin, Terrell and Jonathan Thompson
He was a process technician at Vulcan Materials.
Services were March 7 at Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church, Darrow, with interment at Community Cemetery, Prairieville.
TUREAUD
CONVENT – Ralph Marcel Tureaud Sr., 76, a native and resident of Convent, died March 1. He was the husband of Marion LeBlanc Tureaud and father of Cathey Allen, Kim Ware and Robert, Mark Sr., Ken, Ralph Jr. and the late Eric Tureaud.
He was the son of the late Herman and Victoria Coleman Tureaud and brother of Brenda Brock and Rodney Tureaud.
He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 7 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at the church cemetery.
ZERINGUE
ST. JAMES – James J. Zeringue, 81, a native and resident of St. James, died March 5. He was the husband of Shirley Waguespack Zeringue and father of Jacquiline Yancey, Sharon Curry and Gerald and Michael Zeringue.
He was the son of the late Furcy and Lea Zeringue and brother of Rita Faulkner and Stanley, Alfred, Allen, Robert and the late Nelson Zeringue.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a retired sugar cane farmer.
Memorial services are today at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, St. James. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m.
