LAPLACE – Robert A. “Bob” Prehn, Ph.D., was recently named as the new chief executive officer and managing director for River Parishes Hospital and Health System, replacing Ann Kuss who retired in October.

“We had the opportunity to interview several very accomplished candidates,” said UHS Regional Vice President Skip Courtney, “but in all honesty, none possessed the enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to River Parishes Hospital which was demonstrated by Bob.”

Dr. Prehn has more than 20 years experience in health care administration, serving most recently as the chief operating officer of another Universal Health Services hospital, Chalmette Medical Center in Chalmette.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Richmond, holds a master’s degree in psychology and management from Louisiana State University, and a doctorate degree in health care administration and psychology.

He has taught at LSU and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, and has conducted presentations to more than 50 regional and national groups including the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Hospital Association, and the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Prehn is also the author of more than 30 articles in professional journals on quality improvement, physician relations, and productivity management.

Bob and his wife, Alina, met while both were attending graduate school at LSU. They have four children.

“I am impressed by the quality of the staff and physicians at River Parishes Hospital and Health System,” Dr. Prehn commented.

“I look forward to being part of the great future ahead of us.”
