COLE
GRAMERCY – Dorothy Cole, 82, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Gramercy, died Dec. 26. She was the wife of the late Oscar Cole and mother of Madline Joseph, Arnold Griffin and Milton Cole.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Dolly Mills and sister of Mary Polk and Dave, Dan and the late Robert Jr., Charlie, Mose, Isaac, John, Paul, James and Abraham Mills.
She is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 29 at New Zion Full Gospel Church, Gramercy, with interment at Western Cemetery, Lutcher.
FRANKLING
ST. ROSE – Earnest Frankling, 85, a native of Plaquemine and resident of St. Rose, died Dec. 23. He was the husband of Madeline C. Frankling, father of Carolyn Jackson, Lana Patterson, Kernell Williams, Calvin, Michael and Elbert Franklin and the late Ernestine Batton and stepfather of Linda Henley, Debbie Johnson, Sandra Dooley, Valerie Forest, Ronnie Lewis, Don Ridley and the late Benjamin Johnson.
He was the son of the late Richard and Matilda Frankling and brother of the late Charles, Frank and Wilbert Williams.
He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 29 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, St. Rose, with interment at Providence Memorial Cemetery, Metairie.
MATHERNE
NORCO – Evelyn King Matherne, 74, a native of Lewisburg and resident of Norco for 54 years, died Dec. 26. She was the wife of Eugene Matherne and mother of Laura Ditta and John and David Matherne.
She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ellia Guillory King and sister of Evette Tamburello and the late Claiborne King.
She is also survived by three grandchildren.
She was a former teacher at the New University School in New Orleans and a member of the Sacred Heart Choir.
Services were Dec. 29 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with private interment.
McDANIELS
NEW ORLEANS – Pauline Cooper McDaniels, 65, a native of Convent and resident of New Orleans, died Dec. 24. She was the wife of Robert McDaniels Sr. and mother of Wanda C. White, Brenda, Gary, Tyrone Sr. and Gregory Cooper and stepmother of Denise and Robert McDaniels Jr.
She was the sister of Dauphine, Earnestine, Diane, Doretha, Therease, Betsy and Adolph Mire Jr.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was a retired registered nurse.
Services were Dec. 28 in the chapel of Magee Funeral Home, New Orleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park.
OSBORNE
MARRERO – Esper Rita Osborne, 76, a native of Vacherie and resident of Marrero for 73 years, died Dec. 24. She was the wife of Lawrence Osborne and mother of Muriel, Geric, Craig and the late Carl Osborne Sr.
She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Celeste Richard and sister of Paul and Herman Richard Sr. She was preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers and one grandchild.
She is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were Dec. 29 at Second Zion Baptist Church, Marrero, with intemrent at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetrey, Westwego.
PHILIP
SOUTH VACHERIE – Joseph “Uncle Coon” Philip, 101, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Dec. 24. He was the husband of the late Juanita Jones Philip.
He was the son of the late Edward and Marie Favorite Philip and brother of the late Jane Steib, Josephine Steib, Louise Saul and Edward Jr., Jasper and Stanislase Philip.
He is survived by his good friend, Melba Oubre of Edgard.
Servces were Dec. 29 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.
RICHARD
NORCO – Louise “Lou” Robichaux Richard, 88, a native of Vacherie and resident of New Orleans and Norco, died Dec. 22. She was the mother of Mary Ferguson and John, Don and Lawrence Richard Jr.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 26 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.
SIMON
SOUTH VACHERIE – William “Peanut” Simon Jr., 72, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Dec. 27. He was the husband of Victorine Dumas Simon and father of Beverly Bailey, Jacqueline Guss, Jeanolia, Martin, Melvin, Larry, George, Leo and William Simon III.
He was the brother of Aldonia Harry, Clothide Haygel, Velma Florence, Ora Lee Borne and Joe Simon.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren.
He was a retired sandblaster with Avondale Shipyards.
Services were Dec. 31 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.
VIGUET
PLAQUEMINE – Eula Mae Bergeron Viguet, 79, a native of Union and resident of Plaquemine, died Dec. 24. She was the wife of the late George Viguet Jr. and mother of Betty, Tommy, Michael and the late George Viguet III.
She was the daughter of the late Nick and Alice Bergeron and sister of Earline Mury, Ruth Melancon, B.B. and Clarence Bergeron and the late Mabel Buchanon and John Bergeron.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 28 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, Plaquemine, with interment at Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum.
