Men must appreciate wives and respect their guidance

“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband.” Proverbs 12:4.

I’ve read that verse in the Bible many times, but never gave it much thought. Maybe a good reason for this is because I’ve always taken my wife, Jeanne, for granted. I may be wrong, but I think that most men take their wives for granted.

Well, God has a way of reminding ungrateful husbands, such as myself, that it’s time to wake up and realize what we have.

Two weeks ago, I decided to attend a Sunday service at the First United Methodist Church. It was the first time Jeanne and I ever attended a service at this church. I’ve known Pastor Ken Graham for a few years and was just impressed to attend one of his services.

As we entered the church, we were greeted by Mrs. Barbara Rouse, whom we had not seen for a few years. She and I exchanged greetings and then I noticed someone to whom I wanted to say hello. Barbara greeted my wife with a big smile and a hug. They talked for a little while.

I like to rate church services, and on the scale of one to 10, this one was a 10. It was plain vanilla. Pastor Graham’s humility and love for his flock, especially the young children, was evident. It was an uplifting celebration with a great message.

One the way home, Jeanne said, “Barbara shocked me by telling me that I was a hard role model to follow.” I told my wife that regardless of how long she lives, she will never receive a bigger compliment. I then jokingly said, “You know, Barbara saw me first. I wonder why she didn’t tell me anything?”

The compliment that Jeanne received that Sunday was God telling me that He has blessed me with a virtuous woman.

The Bible also says in Proverbs 31:10 – “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”

With that theme, Get High on Life will sponsor a Women’s Prayer Breakfast, Oct. 6, at 8 a.m., at the LaPlace Holiday Inn. The public is invited to attend. Anyone interested may call 652-8477.

We are believing that 200 women will attend. It promises to be a great morning!
