Denoux crowned St. Charles Parish Festival Queen

ST. CHARLES PARISH – Candice Denoux, daughter of Michael and Olivia Denoux, was crowned the 2001-02 St. Charles Parish Festival Queen by Parish President Albert Laque. Denoux is from Norco and a freshman at Nicholls State University. She was a member of Destrehan’s Desty Darlings Dance team, a TOPS Scholar and was awarded a $500 scholarship by the Ormond Civic Association. Denoux succeeds the 2000-01 queen, Kimberly Payne of Norco. Denoux will represent St. Charles Parish on Sept. 28 in New Iberia for the Louisiana Sugar Festival. The first runner-up in the misses competition was Alana Weber, daughter of Alan and Janell Weber of Destrehan, who is a senior at LSU. Weber also won the fashion and mask awards. The second runner-up was Ashley Haydel, daughter of Ann and Kenneth Haydell of Destrehan, who is a senior at Our Lady of the Lake College. The third runner-up was Vali Lowry, daughter of Susan and John Lowry of Norco, who is a senior at LSU. Selected as Miss Sweetness was Meghan Marshall, daughter of Randy and Georgelyn Marshall of Destrehan. Selected as the 2001-02 St. Charles Parish Festival Teen Oueen was Michelle Harris of Destrehan, daughter of Deborah Terese of Destrehan and Guy Harris of Mississ-ippi, who is a junior at Destrehan High School. She succeeds the 2000-01 teen queen, Shelley Hennig of Destrehan. The first runner-up in the teen competition is Rachel Bourgeois, daughter of Rita St. Pierre of Destrehan, who is a freshman at Destrehan High School. The second runner-up was Amanda Guidry, daughter of Michael and Dawn Guidry, who is a sophomore at Destrehan High School. The third runner-up was Amber Ropas, daughter of Wendy Ropas of Norco, who is a junior at Destrehan High School. The fourth runner-up was Caitlin Gilbert, daughter of Maureen Gilbert of Destrehan, who is a sophomore at Destrehan High School. Selected as Teen Miss Sweetness was Kimberly Bleakely, daughter of Cliff and Caroline Bleakley of Montz, who is a junior at Destrehan High School. The teen fashion award went to Jessica Perilloux, daughter of Gary and Kerri Perilloux of Norco, who is a freshman at Destrehan High School. Amanda Guidry received the photogenic award.
