Meeting slated for Wednesday
DESTREHAN – The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation is scheduled to hold a public meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Destrehan Plantation to discuss efforts to restore and protect the lands and waters of the Pontchartrain Basin.The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will be held inside the Mule House at the plantation.

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, working in conjunction with the State Police and the Office of Emergency Preparedness, recently identified state emergency evacuation routes to be used in the event of a disaster, including hurricanes and floods.Prior to the occurrence of an emergency it is critical citizens develop a personal readiness plan. A map of the routes is available for downloading from the DOTD website – www.dotd.state.la.us. Once at the site, visitors may click the “Evacuation Maps” link and then select a specific map. The maps are available in different sizes and may cover the entire state, individual State Police troop areas and DOTD districts.
School registration underway
LUTCHER – Parents in St. James Parish may now register children who will be entering the parishs public schools for the first time. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. at the School Board office in Lutcher.A birth certificate, social security card, immunization record, current utility bill of parent to document legal-resident attendance zone and a copy of court record to verify legal guardianship if applicable. Students are not allowed to attend school beginning Aug. 17 until the process is completed.
