Local dancer wins national title

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – MaQue Hollins started her journey to the nationals in December 2000 in Chalmette, where she competed in the Star Systems New Orleans preliminary. She won three overall high score honors scoring all platinum achievements. She was named “Petite Overall Top Model,” “Petite Overall Top Soloist” and “Star Systems Petite Miss Dance 2001.” She also won a Broadway Experience scholarship and the Access Broadway scholarship. At the Footloose dance competition, Hollins was selected “Miss Elite” and first runner-up in the junior division. She competed at Star Bound and was chosen “Overall Top Model and “Second Overall Top Soloist.” At the American Dance Awards, she was selected for the Petite Miss Dance award and went on to compete at the Star Systems Nationals held recently at the University of Nevada’s Hamm Auditorium in Las Vegas. Hollins was selected as “Overall Top Petite Model of the Year” and went on to win the national title of “Petite Miss Dance 2001.” Hollins is the 9-year-old daughter of Camel and QuoVadis Hollins of LaPlace. She has attended dance and modeling classes with Dance Unlimited of the River Parishes since she was 2 years old, under the direction of Laurie Falgoust, Samantha Sidwell and Duanne Cazalot. “We are so proud of MaQue,” owner Duanne Cazalot said. “She is always willing to do what ever it takes to be her best. She has a great love of the stage which is sure to take her as far as she is willing to go.” Hollins plans to spend a week in New York City participating in the Broadway Experience this summer.
