HAHNVILLE – As part of its “Partners in Education” Program, the Dow Chemical Company – St. Charles Operations recently awarded a graduating senior from Hahnville High School with a $4,000 scholarship. The HHS scholarship committee selected R.C. Fron as the 2001 Dow scholarship recipient. Dow vice president and St. Charles operations site leader, Mike Rio, and Dow community education manager, Joval Walker, gathered for a presentation at Dow, where Fron received a certificate certifying the scholarship. Fron was a member of Beta Club, the National Honor Society, and the Science Olympiad. He plans to attend Mississippi State University as a chemical engineering major. In February, Dow merged with Union Carbide Corporation and the Partners in Education program was maintained under Dow’s new organizational structure. The PIE program matching Hahnville High School and Dow SCO as partners has been active for 15 years. The essence of the program is to support education initiatives and recognize student and teacher performance toward education excellence. Dow SCO has similar programs with two additional St. Charles Parish public schools, G.W. Carver Elementary School in Hahnville and St. Rose Primary in St. Rose.
