LAPLACE – On Tuesday at 10 a.m. the St. John the Baptist Parish Library in LaPlace will feature John Lehon, the time traveling storyteller, who will share his “Fables of the Future,” as part of this year’s summer reading program for children ages 8 and older. Lehon will portray a time traveling storyteller from the third millennium who miraculously materializes in order to recover the lost stories of the second millennium. The inhabitants of this time period possess the knowledge to restore the missing pieces of well-known tales lost to future generations. The storyteller skillfully blends his academic training as a master of fine arts in drama with his extensive professional experience as a creative drama specialist, actor, magician, instructor, teacher trainer and workshop leader to create enchanting and exciting performances. He draws his audience in with magic, mime, mirth and music and then invites them to join in the storytelling through simultaneous sound effects and audience participation. Most of Lehon’s work is inspired by the rich folk traditions of the world. He prefers tales that contain a simple lesson and a clever twist. Some stories also incorporate art projects for members of the audience to take home. This performance is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Decentralized Arts Funding program, administered by the Houma Terrebonne Arts and Humanities Council.
