Gymnasts take state honors

LAPLACE – Ivanov’s Gymnastic’s Academy returned to the state gymnastics meet again this year. This time their whole team qualified and traveled to the competition. The traveled to Baton Rouge in March for the meet and competed at the Louisiana State University Field House Arena and at the LSU Pete Maravich Assembly Center. “They all made the state competition which is a high honor,” said Larisa Ivanova, who coached the team with Anatoly Ivanov. Many of the girls placed high in their events. Karuna Nhem took first place and is state champion in the level two vault competition and placed third all around. Emilie Eller placed first on the bars in the level five competition. In the level eight competition Yvette Triay took second place in the vault competition and qualified for the second year to travel to the regional competition in North Carolina. Other medal winners by level were: Level Two, Heather Cancienne, second place in vault, third place in bars and fifth place all around and Emely Pierce, second place in vault. Level Seven, Danielle Kay, second place in bars and third place all around and Olivia Carisella, second place in bars, second in beam, third in floor, fourth in vault and third all around. Many of the other Ivanov gymnists placed in the top 10. Ivanov’s Gymnastic Academy is open year-round for classes. The summer camps are already open for registration. All ages are invited to attend. The classes run from June 4 to Aug. 10. Multiple times are available to accommodate school students. Call Ivanov’s at 652-4500 to sign up.
