RA wins first game in playoffs

KENTWOOD – Riverside enjoyed another historical night Thursday.

The Lady Rebels pulled away in the second half for a 60-46 victory at Jewel Sumner in the Class 2A bi-district playoffs. The win was the first ever for the Lady Rebels in the playoffs. Riverside, which improved to 17-12 on the season, will play Jackson in the regionals this week. Jackson upset Newman, 47-36, Thursday night. Jewel Sumner finished its season at 13-12. The game was tied at 25 at the half but Riverside pulled out to a 44-37 lead at the end of the third quarter and outscored Sumner, 16-9, in the fourth quarter. Crystal Rome led the way for the Lady Rebels with 29 points. Wendy Reames tossed in another 11 points and Heather Montz scored 10.

Destrehan 52, McDonogh 40

DESTREHAN – Destrehan jumped out to a 31-12 halftime lead on its way to a 52-40 victory over McDonogh in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs Thursday night. Destrehan advances to play Covington in the regionals next week after improving to 26-8 on the season. Covington defeated Natchitoches-Central, 83-61, Thursday. McDonogh finished at 17-13 on the season. Meagan Stock scored a team-high 17 points for the Lady Cats. Ashley Sentimore contributed 15 points and Joevone Markey had 10.

John Ehret 80, Hahnville 35

MARRERO – John Ehret showed why its the second ranked team in the state, rolling past Hahnville, 80-35, in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs Thursday night. Ehret (28-2) will play Belaire in the regionals this week. Belaire defeated Opelousas, 41-36, Thursday. Hahnville, the third place team out of District 7-5A, finished at 16-13 on the season. Ehret jumped out to a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and 38-21 at halftime. A 27-12 run in the third quarter made it 65-33. Toyelle Rickson had 18 points to lead Hahnville. Cashmir White added seven. Lariana Landry had a game-high 20 points for Ehret. Dominee Matthews added 18 points while Alberta Augusta chipped in with 14.

Karr 74, Lutcher 39

NEW ORLEANS – Karr led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and went on to a 74-39 victory over Lutcher in the Class 3A bi-district playoffs Thursday night. Karr, 24-11, advances to play Kaplan in the regionals this week. Kaplan defeated Buckeye, 60-27, Thursday. Lutcher ended its season at 14-20. Javonne Ross had 13 points to lead Lutcher. Jauntrell Williams added 12 points.

Iota 94, West St. John 35

IOTA – Second-ranked Iota advanced to the Class 2A regionals with a 94-35 victory over West St. John Thursday night. Iota, 26-5 on the season, advances to play Christian Life in the regionals. Christian Life defeated Port Barre, 88-37, Thursday. West St. John finished its season at 9-15.
