Mt. Hermon pulls away from RCS

RESERVE – Mount Hermon scored the first 12 points of the game and held off a second quarter charge by Reserve Christian to take an 84-51 District 12-B victory at “The Nest” Friday night. Mount Hermon remained in first place in the district at 3-0 while improving to 11-15 overall. Reserve Christian fell to 1-2 in district and 14-10 on the season. Mount Hermon had five players finish in double figures. Stacey Roberts led all scorers with 20 points for the Lady Yellowjackets. Jamie Painter chipped in with 18 points. Ann Lucas added 14 points, Farrah Warner 13 and Caleshia Clark 12. Trenelle Smith led Reserve Christian with 18 points. Trenese Smith contributed 14 and Amber Schlesinger six. Mount Hermon opened the game on a 12-0 run. Painter opened the scoring by taking a pass inside from Roberts. Lucas followed by scoring off a steal, forcing the Lady Eagles to use a timeout with 6:56 left. Clark hit a jumper in the lane and Roberts and Lucas followed with drives. Roberts then scored off a steal by Clark, making it 12-0 at the 5:34 mark of the first quarter. Trenese Smith got Reserve Christian on the board by banking in a jumper at the 5:22 mark. But the Lady Yellowjackets answered with jumpers by Lucas and Warner and two free throws by Painter to take an 18-4 lead. Trenese Smith buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key, then drove in off a rebound by Trenelle Smith to pull the Lady Eagles to within 10. But Williams came back with a jumper from the right wing, making it 23-11 at the end of the first quarter. Reserve Christian opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to pull to within four. Trenese Smith started the run with a 3-pointer from the left corner and Trenelle Smith followed a possession later with a jumper from the right baseline. Mary Venus then drove in and was fouled, converting the three-point play to make it 23-19. After a put back by Painter, Trenese Smith drained a 3-pointer from the left corner to pull the Lady Eagles to within 25-22. But Mount Hermon then held Reserve Christian to one field goal over the last five minutes of the half, going on a 12-2 run to take a 13-point halftime lead. Lucas hit two jumpers to open the run and Painter scored inside to make it 31-22 with 2:44 left. Renee Delaneuville hit a jumper from the right side in the final minute to get the Lady Eagles back on the board and made it 37-24 at the break. Drives by Roberts and Clark helped the Lady Yellowjackets increase the lead to 42-24 early in the third quarter. A put back by Schlesinger got the Lady Eagles on the board with 6:07 left. But Warner scored off a pass by Roberts, then took a steal in to make it 64-37 at the end of the quarter. Trenelle Smith opened the final quarter with a 3-pointer from the right side. Natalie Simon followed with a jumper from the right baseline. But Mount Hermon went on another run, taking a 78-49 lead on a jumper by Lucas.
