Mason, Robertson lead Glade past Godchaux

LAPLACE – Dana Mason scored 11 of her team-high 16 points to lead the Glade School to a 29-27 victory over Leon Godchaux at the Glade gym Monday evening. Nikita Robertson added 10 points for the Lady Gators. Kimijoan Anderson also scored 16 points for Leon Godchaux. Gaynelle Brown tossed in another nine. The Lady Gators took a 20-18 lead into the fourth quarter. Godchaux tied the game on its first possession of the final quarter as Brown hit a jumper from the free throw line. Robertson put the Lady Gators back up by two with a jumper from the right wing on the next possession. Brown cut the deficit to one with a free throw with 4:33 left. Robertson found Mason underneath to push the lead up to three with two minutes left. Ariane Carter grabbed a steal in the lane and put up a jumper to make it a one-point game a possession later. The Lady Gators answered again as Robertson found Mason inside, making it 26-23. Robertson hit two free throws to build the lead to six with 54 seconds left. Carter found Anderson for a jumper to knock the deficit down to four. Anderson then grabbed a steal and was fouled, making both shots to make it 29-27 with five seconds left. But Robertson took the inbounds pass and ran out the clock to preserve the win. The Lady Gators took a 4-2 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter on a drive by Mason. Anderson drove in to tie the game with under two minutes to play. Robertson took in a steal to give Glade the lead back but Brown tied the game for the Lady Cats at six at the end of the first quarter with a put back. Robertson drove the lane to give the Lady Gators the lead for good early in the second quarter. Mason then scored off a pass from Leondra Watkins was fouled, converting the three-point play to make it 12-8 with 17 seconds left in the half. Mason took another pass from Robertson inside to increase the lead to 14-8 early in the third quarter. After a drive by Anderson off a steal, Watkins hit a jumper to make it 16-10 with 3:56 left. Mason scored inside twice to build the lead to 20-13 with 2:03 remaining in the quarter. Anderson came back with a jumper from the right side for the Lady Cats. A free throw and a jumper from the right baseline by Brown pulled the Lady Cats to within 20-18 heading into the fourth quarter.
