Cats fall; Tigers, Comets get wins

RESERVE – Chris Bruce scored a game-high 16 points as South Lafourche held off an upset attempt by East St. John, 41-39, in the Wildcat Gym Friday night. South Lafourche remained in a tie for first place in District 7-5A with Thibodaux with a 3-0 district record and a 12-9 mark overall. East St. John fell to 3-14 overall and 0-4 in district. East St. John led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter before South Lafourche took a 21-20 halftime lead. East St. John tied the game at 32 going into the fourth quarter. Adam Minor added seven points for South Lafourche. Darwin Pittman had 12 points for East St. John. Louis Gardner added 10 points and Karnacio Hamilton eight. Hahnville 58, Destrehan 57 DESTREHAN – Harold Comminie’s free throws in overtime allowed Hahnville to escape with a 58-57 win at Destrehan Friday night. Hahnville improved to 20-5 overall and 2-1 in District 7-5A with the win. Destrehan fell to 12-11 overall and 2-2 in district. Aaron Alexander led the way for Hahnville with 14 points. Corey Woods added 13 and Nick Cannon 12. Destrehan was led by Lionel Turner with 20 points. Mark Stewart tossed in another 18 points. St. Charles Catholic 70, Ascension Catholic 55 LAPLACE – St. Charles Catholic had five players score in double figures as the Comets defeated Ascension Catholic, 70-55, Friday night. Daress Nicholas led the Comets with 15 points. Michael Bonura and Aaron Johnson had 13 points apiece. Matt Boucvalt added 11 points and Mike Mustian 10. St. Charles Catholic (18-6) led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter and 37-24 at halftime. The Comets took a 53-35 lead into the fourth quarter. Lutcher 63, Reserve Christian 53 LUTCHER – Donnie Francois scored a game-high 22 points to lead Lutcher to a 63-53 non-district victory over Reserve Christian Friday night. Lutcher improved to 13-10 overall while Reserve Christian fell to 25-13. Chris Johnson added 15 points and Jamie Jackson 12. Reserve Christian was led by Matt McGee with 18 points. Demond Carter chipped in with eight. Reserve Christian rallied from a 12-8 first quarter deficit to take a 24-22 halftime lead. But Lutcher came back with a 25-17 third quarter run to make it 47-41.
