Parenting classes to be held
EDGARD – The LSU AgCenter Research and Extension is sponsoring a series of free parenting workshops in the River Parishes area. Workshops will be conducted at the St. John Child Development Center in Garyville, the St. John County Agents Office in Edgard and the Kingsley House Family Resource Center in LaPlace.
St. John Child Development Center will host workshops for parents of infants and young children. These workshops will begin Jan. 10 and continue through April 11. Call 497-3260 to register. The schedule is:
- Jan. 10, 1:30-3 p.m. – Childs Play – Understand How You Can Foster Growth and Development
- Jan. 24, 1:30-3 p.m. – Feed Me Im Yours
- Feb. 7, 1:30-3 p.m. – Temper Tantrums, Guidance and Discipline
- Feb. 28, 1:30-3 p.m. – Handling, Nurturing, Safety and Health Care
- March 28, 1:30-3 p.m. – A Sense of Self – Temperament and Personality
- April 11, 1:30-3 p.m. – Building Character: Responsibility, Caring, Trust, Respect, Citizenship and Fairness
“Children in the Middle,” a series of workshops to be held at the St. John County Agents Office, will focus on co-parenting, stress management and communication for adults in separating families. Workshops will be conducted from Jan. 16 through March 6 and will consist of two two-hour classes or one four-hour class. Preregistration is required; call 497-3260. The schedule is:
- Jan. 16, from 5-7 p.m., and Jan. 23, from 5-7 p.m.
- Jan. 23, from 5-9 p.m.
- Feb. 20, from 5-7, and March 6, from 5-7 p.m.
- March 6, from 5-9 p.m. – Kingsley House Family Resource Center will host workshops from Jan. 10 through March 14. Call 497-3260 to preregister. The schedule is:

- Feb. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon – Self-Esteem and Violence, Drug and Alcohol Prevention
- Feb. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to noon – Teaching Character, Attitudes, Values and Responsibility to Help Your Child Succeed
- Feb. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to noon – Conflict Management (part one of two)
- March 7, from 10:30 a.m. to noon – Conflict Management (part two of two)
- March 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon – How to Have a Healthy Home Environment and Get the Most For Your Food Dollar.
