An LSU bus trip for those in the Lutcher/Gramercy, Baton Rouge/Gonzales, LaPlace/New Orleans area interested in traveling to the Peach Bowl is being planned. The bus departs on Thursday, Dec. 28 andreturns on Saturday, Dec. 30. The price is $495 per couple and $370 perperson. This includes the game tickets. The St. Charles Catholic Christmas Baseball Camp will be held Dec.27-29 at the school from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost of the camp is$60. For more information contact Paul Waguespack at 652-3029 or 725-0962.

The Lutcher Dugout Club will hold a two-day baseball and softball camp at the Lutcher High School diamonds Thursday and Friday, Dec. 28-29.All boys and girls ages seven through 14 years of age are invited to attend.

The camp will include instructional drills in defense and in offense on Friday.

The cost of the camp will be $40 for pre-registration and $45 for anyone registering on or after Tuesday, Dec. 26. There will be a cost reduction fortwo or more campers from the same family. The cost will include a luncheach day, a camp T-shirt and insurance throughout the camp. Campers arerequired to bring their own glove, bat and cleats. In case of bad weather, thecamp will be held in the gymnasiums.

Camp instructors for baseball include Lutcher head coach Scott Tribble, assistant coach Rowdy Martinez and college players Jess Poche of Louisiana- Lafayette, Tolly Nassar of Springhill College, Cleavon Webster and Damian Ursin of Southern University and Rusty Crosslin and Wesley Louque of Pearl River Junior College.

Softball instructors will include Lutcher head coach Helen Funk, assistant coach Chris Nelson and college players Brandi Neal and Erin Hymel of Southeastern Louisiana University, Miss Martin of Louisiana-Lafayette and Jessie Zeringue, Tanya Teague and Sammi Wilks of Chipola Junior College.

Other instructors are still be arranged at this time and may be attending also.

Parents and little league coaches are welcomed and encouraged to attend the camp at no charge. Lunches will be sold to the public on Thursday of thecamp and will be available to parents and coaches both days. The concessionstand will be open throughout the camp.

The St. John Parish Louisiana Hurricanes of the North AmericanFootball League are looking for players with college experience. Players mustbe willing to commit to three practices a week. A Hurricanes tryout combine will be held in the spring. Time andplace will be announced at a later date.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.

The Golf Sampler Card is $44 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 61 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Golf Club of New Orleans at Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of the gold card will also receive a complimentaryJunior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31,2001.

Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in- school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievement and its1,000 volunteers will teach more than 30,000 local students in over 160 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free. The vehiclewill be recycled into the funds needed to support the year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally-retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title.

Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction as the fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
