Morel honored by rights groups

HAHNVILLE – Harry Morel, 29th Judicial district attorney, received the Awardof Merit from Crimefighters and Common Sense Against Crime, twoorganizations which represent victims’ rights.
The award was announced Nov. 10 at a reception in Baton Rouge.
Morel, who has served in the position since 1979, was recognized for”actively working and striving to secure a safer community,” according toJames Sandifer, state president of Common Sense Against Crime.
Karl Eckert, state president of Crimefighters, added that Morel had “taken astrong stand against the criminal element, violent crime, the repeatoffender, and those who would destroy the very fabric of our lawful society.”
Morel responded, “I accept this award on behalf of all the victims of crime werepresent, the Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office. Thevictims are the backbone of Lady Justice, standing up to the perpetrators.
The prosecutors are her right arm, wielding the sword of justice.
Together,they slay the criminal element and keep our streets safe for law-abidingcitizens.”
