Lutcher rallies for three-set win over DHS

LUTCHER – Lutcher head coach Ricky LeBlanc could only shake his head Monday afternoon, having seen it before this season. His Lady Bulldogs hadjust rallied from losing the first game against Destrehan, taking a 11-15, 15- 1, 15-8 victory.

“I was frustrated losing the first one,” LeBlanc said. “We served a lot betterin the second and third games. And we played a lot better on the net.Hopefully by district we can put it together.”Lutcher improved to 12-9 on the season with the win.

After splitting the first two games, Lutcher took a 3-1 lead in the final game on a dink by Lacey Millet. Destrehan came back to tie the game as JanChauvin’s block was knocked out-of-bounds. Two breaks later, the Lady Catstook a 5-3 lead on a cross-court kill by Quinena Sinceno.

Lutcher answered on its next serve as Lindsay Louque delivered an ace to tie the game at 5. Jill Martin then scored on a dink and a kill and KassieWaguespack added another kill to make it 9-5. Following a Destrehan timeout,Michelle Roussel delivered a dink as the Lady Bulldogs went ahead 12-5.

Destrehan pulled to within 12-8 behind an ace by Sinceno. But Lutcher closedout the match as Martin delivered a kill down the middle of the court.

Ashley Huguet had a team-high three aces in the match to go with two kills and five digs. Louque had eight digs, two aces and one kill. Martin had ninekills, four blocks, four digs and one ace.

Waguespack also had nine kills and four digs. Roussel had a team-high eightassists to go with nine digs, two aces and a kill. Millet added five blocks andthree kills.

Atina Porter led Destrehan with nine kills. Jessica Johnson had 11 assistswhile Meagan Stock added two blocks.

Destrehan opened the match with a 3-0 run behind kills by Sinceno and Porter. Lutcher came back to take a 5-3 run behind kills by Waguespack andMartin and a dink by Roussel. An ace by Roussel helped build the lead to 7-3.Destrehan rallied to pull even on an error by the Lady Bulldogs. Lutcherregained a 11-8 lead behind an ace by Martin. But Destrehan again bouncedback, tying the game at 11 on a block by Sinceno. A dink and a kill by Portergave the Lady Cats a 14-11 lead. Sinceno came up with another block for thegame winner.

Lutcher led the second game 2-0 before Destrehan closed the gap on a kill by Porter. But Lutcher pulled away two breaks later, scoring 10 straight pointswith Roussel serving. A block and a downball by Millet made it 4-1.Waguespack followed with consecutive kills before Millet came back with a cross-court kill to make it 7-1. A lift after a dink by Roussel helped extendthe lead to 12-1.

Johnson broke the serve with a dink but Lutcher came right back on its next serve. Waguespack served an ace and Huguet and Millet combined on a blockto make it 14-1. The Lady Bulldogs got the game winner on a lift against theLady Cats.
