Hahnville puts it all together in sweep of Lady Hurricanes

BOUTTE – The Hahnville Lady Tigers put together a complete game Thursday afternoon, sweeping past Higgins, 15-4, 15-4, in the Hahnville gym.

Hahnville (12-6) finished the match with 25 kills. Elizabeth Landry and LaToyaJones led the way with nine apiece. Flora Brown and Jennifer Hicks each hadan ace with Hicks also providing top defense.

The Lady Tigers took a 3-1 lead in the first game on a kill by Landry. After akill by Brown gave the Lady Tigers their serve back, Jones made it 4-1 with a kill. After a cross-court kill by Brown, Jones delivered consecutive kills tobuild the lead to 7-1.

Higgins pulled to within 7-4 on a kill by Dontwell Batiste. But Landry got theserve back with a kill and the Lady Tigers would score eight straight points to close out the game. Three errors by Higgins and a kill by Landry made it11-4. Brown then went on a roll, delivering four straight kills, including one tothe back left corner for the game winner.

Higgins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game behind two Hahnville errors. The Lady Tigers answered on their next serve as a dink by Brown anda lift against Higgins gave them a 3-2 lead. Two Higgins errors built the leadto 5-2.

After Higgins scored on a Hahnville error, the Lady Tigers came right back with four straight points that included a cross court kill by Brown. After aservice break, Hicks had a kill and Brown served an ace for a 11-3 lead.

Jones followed with a dink and a kill to build the lead to 10. Higgins held offtwo serves but the Lady Hurricanes made consecutive defensive errors to give the Lady Tigers the match.

“We had an excellent attack,” Hahnville coach Mindi LeBoeuf said. “I wasextremely pleased with all our game today. We passed the ball really well andwe capitalize on that. We’ve had some inconsistency but we have beenworking on it in practice and today the kids really put it together.”
