Landry Bulldogs sweep past Reserve Christian

RESERVE – Lutcher held off a late spurt by Reserve Christian to take a 15- 4, 15-11 victory over the Lady Eagles Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-4 on the season while Reserve Christian fell to 1-4.

Lutcher jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game on two errors by the Lady Eagles. Reserve Christian came back to tie the game at 2 behind anace by Angie Tucker before the Lady Bulldogs reeled off an 8-0 run.

Lutcher went ahead 5-2 on its next serve behind a kill by Jill Martin. A killby Lindsay Louque made it a six-point game. A serve later, two ReserveChristian errors gave Lutcher a 10-2 lead.

Reserve Christian came back two serves later to pull to within 10-6 behind an ace by Summer Vicknair and three Lutcher errors. Lutcheranswered by taking advantage of two Lady Eagles errors for a 12-6 lead.

Amber Schlesinger and Mary Venus delivered downballs to cut the deficit to within 12-8. Lutcher again answered, pulling out to 14-8 on an ace byMichelle Roussel and a kill of a lob at the net by Jamie Duhe. ReserveChristian again pulled to within three on three Lutcher errors before the Lady Bulldogs got the match winner on a dink by Roussel.

Lutcher also pulled away early in the first game. Reserve Christian openedthe match on an ace by Renee Delaneuville. Lutcher answered on its fourthserve with a kill by Lacey Millet. Two serves later, Millet delivered an aceand Martin followed with two kills to give the Lady Bulldogs a 5-1 lead.

That lead increased to 9-1 behind an ace by Ashley Huguet and a kill by Kassie Waguespack. After an ace by Delaneuville, Huguet punched a shotover and the Lad Eagles committed a net violation off a dig by Martin to make it 11-2.

Two cross-court kills to the back left corner by Martin brought the Lady Bulldogs to game point. An ace by Martin a serve later closed out the game.Martin led the way with a match-high six kills. Waguespack provided topdefense for the Lady Bulldogs who were coming off a semifinal appearance in the H.L. Bourgeois tournament over the weekend.”We’ve been inconsistent,” Lutcher coach Ricky LeBlanc said. “But we didbetter today. I tell them no matter who we play we have to play our styleand sometimes we have trouble doing that.”Schlesinger, Delaneuville and Venus each had three kills for the Lady Eagles. Vicknair had three aces and also provided top defense.”I tell them as successful as we want to be, we can’t wait until the end of the end of the season,” Reserve Christian coach Mike Marix said.

“We have to start now to build on things to help us in state. Our first hitswere not there. When they are not there, you won’t be successful. That wasexhibited today.”Lutcher fell to Ascension Catholic, 3-15, 15-6, 15-12, Thursday. The LadyBulldogs travel to Riverside Tuesday afternoon. Reserve Christian is alsoat home against Hosanna Tuesday.
