Rebels rush to win

RESERVE – Brandon Delaneuville and Britt Waguespack combined to rushfor 220 yards and five touchdowns as Riverside defeated L.B. Landry, 34-14, Friday night.

Riverside improved to 2-0 on the season while Landry fell to 0-2.

Waguespack finished with 125 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.

Delaneuville added 95 yards and two scores on 16 attempts. DamianMelancon completed 8-of-13 passes for 81 yards. Gary Entremont caughtfive passes for 71 yards. The Rebels finished with 368 yards in offense,257 coming on 43 rushing attempts.

Landry was led by Eddie Sabatier who had 26 carries for 115 yards and atouchdown. He also had a two-point conversion. Eric Everfield completed2-of-13 passes for 20 yards, both completions going to Adrian Bricoe. TheBuccaneers finished with 175 yards in offense, including 155 yards on 36rushing attempts.

Riverside moved the ball to the Landry 4-yard line on its first possessionof the game before the Buccaneers recovered a Delaneuville fumble at thetwo. The Rebels regained possession at their 39 and went 61 yards ineight plays. Waguespack took it in for the score from 15 yards out on thethird play of the second quarter with Blake Torres adding the extra point.

Riverside got the ball back at the Landry 33 after an 8-yard punt by theBuccaneers. The Rebels cashed in in five plays with Delaneuville gettingthe score from five yards out. The extra point was no good, leaving thescore 13-0. Melancon was intercepted in the endzone with 10 seconds leftin the half.

Riverside opened the second half with a 10-play, 70-yard drive.

Delaneuville capped it with a 4-yard run and Torres made the extra pointto make it 20-0.

After an 18-yard punt by Landry, Michael Schoen came in at quarterbackand engineered a nine-play, 44-yard scoring drive for the Rebels.

Thistime it was Waguespack taking it in from two yards out. Torres’ kick wasgood, increasing the lead to 27-0.

Landry came right back with a 64-yard, 10-play drive. Sabatier did mostof the damage, rushing seven times for 44 yards on the drive, includingtwo yards for the score. The try for two failed, leaving it at 27-6.

Landry recovered a Riverside fumble at the Rebels 41 and cashed in in sixplays. Everfield scampered in from nine yards out for the score, then foundBricoe for the two-point conversion to bring the Buccaneers to within 27-14.

Riverside answered with a 51-yard, seven-play drive. Waguespack scoredon a 7-yard run. Torres added the extra point for the final tally.
