Fight ends with beating, arrest

RESERVE – A Reserve man is in the River Parishes Hospital with seriousinjuries after being beaten with a baseball bat.

The St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office has arrested another Reserveresident and charged him with the beating.

Tuesday evening around 6:45 deputies were called to a disturbance onFalgoust Lane in Reserve. When they arrived they found several peoplefighting. A man covered in dirt and bleeding from his nose and earapproached officers and said someone had beaten him with a baseball bat.

The victim, Jarvis Turner, 18, was taken to River Parishes Hospital by hisparents, along with deputies.

When deputies arrived at the hospital they found the other man who hadbeen involved in the fight at the emergency room.

Chason Riley, 18, 170 Beech Grove, told deputies he and Turner had gotteninto a verbal argument that turned into a physical altercation.

According to Riley, Turner first hit him with a lock and then a 2×4 board. Riley responded by hitting Turner several times with a baseball bat.

Riley was arrested and booked with aggravated battery.

Turner’s injuries were deemed serious by doctors and he was admitted to thehospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Thursday he was conscious but underobservation and listed in stable condition, according to hospital spokesmanSean Roussel.
