BECNEL SOUTH VACHERIE – Curtis Charles “Frere” Becnel, 84, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Aug. 17. He was the husband of Eugenie Stein Becnel andfather of Molly Guidry, Nancy Haas, Laura Steib, Sandra Deslattes and Ralph Becnel.

He was also the son of the late Robert and Marie Stein Becnel and brother of Genevieve Abadie, Irene Becnel and the late Joseph “Olene,” Glenn, Roland, Mark, Michael, Remie and Benoit “Johnny” Becnel.

He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He waspreceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were Aug. 19 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, SouthVacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.

BOX LULING – Nello Garland “Bob” Box, 80, a native of Natchitoches, former resident of Paradis and resident of Carrier, Miss., died Aug. 18. He was thehusband by first marriage of Donna Wade Box and by second marriage of the late Carrie Dufrene Box, father of Pamela Hollimon and the late Nuel Wayne Box and stepfather of Belinda Scroggins, Tammy Verdin, Ramona Hogan and Donna, Leroy and Michael Gros.

He was also the son of the late George and Olla Duke Box and brother of Christille Roberts, Lita Mae Waters and the late Lola Thibodaux, Willa Johnain and Joel and Grover Box.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was a retired St. Charles Parish sheriff’s deputy with 24 years ofservice.

Services were Aug. 21 at First Baptist Church, Luling, with interment at St.Charles Mausoleum, Luling.

OUBRE METAIRIE – Agnes Duhon Oubre, 90, a native of Garyville and resident of Metairie for 50 years, died Aug. 16. She was the wife of the late Cline BenoitOubre and mother of the late Barbara Oubre Theriot.

She was also the daughter of the late Charles and Lucille Shaxnaider Duhon and sister of Rodney Duhon and the late Annie Freeman and Alvin, Elmo and Eddie Duhon.

She is also survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 19 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Metairie, withinterment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.VICKNAIR LAPLACE – Daniel A. Vicknair Sr., 80, a native of Montz and resident ofLaPlace for 50 years, died Aug. 20. He was the husband of Mable LaicheVicknair and father of Marsha Daley, Mary Millet and Danny Vicknair Jr.

He was also the son of the late Abraham and Eva T. Vicknair and brother ofNoelie Labat and the late Fern Barrett and Louise, Prosper, Abraham Jr.,Leandre and Guy Vicknair.

He is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He waspreceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were Aug. 22 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace,with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

WILLIAMS SOUTH VACHERIE – Rashad Kimal “Big Rue” Williams, 17, a native of Vacherie and resident of LaPlace for eight years, died Aug. 16. He was the son ofMichael Williams and Hazel Scott, stepson of Felicia Williams and Frederick Scott, brother of Darcel, D’Andriane, Derick, Jarius, Adonis, Nickalaus and Jamar Williams and two stepbrothers.

He was also the grandson of Lebora Melancon and Ida Mae Jasmine and stepgrandson of Joseph Phillip. He was preceded in death by grandparentsEddie Armant, Dory Phillip and Joseph Jasmine.

Services were Aug. 21 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, SouthVacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.
