Luminais continues solid play

ST. FRANCISVILLE – Steve Luminais of Reserve remained as hot as theweather this summer, taking another top 10 finish at the Pre-Collegiate Classic Tuesday at The Bluffs on Thompson Creek.
Luminais shot a 9-over par 153 to tie for sixth place at the tournament. Hefinished with a 6-over 78 after opening with a 3-over 75 Monday.
“It was pretty nice,” Luminais said. “The course was in good shape but thegreens were kind of slow.”Luminais kept hitting those greens in regulation, 14 on Monday and 17 on Tuesday. He did have 41 putts his second day. That round included a birdie onthe 235-yard par-3 17th when Luminais hit the green with his tee shot and one-putted.
Casey Cardidelle won the tournament with a 4-over par 148, shooting rounds of 72 and 76. Brett Bergeron of LaPlace shot an 80-81-161.Luminais placed second at the Gulf States PGA Junior Championship earlier this season. He also had a ninth-place overall finish at the Canton Classic onthe Gulf States PGA Junior Tour. And he finished ninth in his age group at theRay Hoskins Invitational.
One of his biggest highlights of the summer was a third-place finish at the Louisiana Independent Insurance Agents tournament in June. That finishqualified him for the national tournament Tuesday through Friday at the White Columns Golf Club in Alpharetta, Ga.
“It should be pretty fun,” Luminais said. “I want to make the cut (after thesecond round) and play all four days.”
