BATON ROUGE – Drills between the East squad’s offensive and defensive lines had a distinctive River Praishes flavor to them this week at practices for the Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s All-Star football game.

The game was played last night at LSU’s Tiger Stadium.

Riverside’s Joseph Trosclair and Destrehan’s Jeremy Parquet were on the offensive line for the East while Lutcher’s Jemelle Cage was on the defensive side of the ball.

“It’s going good,” Trosclair said of the practices Tuesday afternoon at the LSU football practice fields. “It’s not like high school. Here, everybody isas good as you or better. You have to work hard to push yourself to getbetter.”Trosclair was an all-District 9-2A, all-Metro and all-state selection in 1999 for the Rebels and has signed to play for Nicholls State this fall. Hewas playing center for the East All-Stars, saying that was the first time he has done so.

“I had never snapped before,” Trosclair said. “But I’m getting it down sofar.”On the line with Trosclair was Parquet, an all-District 7-5A, all-Metro and all-State selection this past season. He has signed to play forSouthern Mississippi this season. Parquet said he was kind of shocked tobe selected for the All-Star game, feeling he had a down year in 1999.

“It’s a good experience,” Parquet, who will play left tackle for the East, said. “I just want to go out and have fun in it. I don’t want to hurt anybodyand I don’t want to get hurt.” Lining up opposite the two were Cage, the District 9-3A Defensive MVP in 1999. Cage was also selected all-Metro and all-State. He had 94 tackles,72 unassisted, along with 11 sacks and 17 tackles behind the line. Hesigned with Louisiana Tech in February.

“I’m excited,” Cage said of being selected to the All-Star team. “It wasone of my dreams.”Cage said he was expecting the competition to be kind of tough.

“You’ll see half of these guys in college,” Cage said. “I’m looking like it asanother practice, a warmup for college.”
