Bergeron third at Alex Open

ALEXANDRIA – Brett Bergeron of LaPlace shot a 2-over par 146 to place third at the Alex Junior State Open at Alexandria Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Bergeron, coming off a third-place finish at the Gulf States Section PGA Junior Championships last week, had rounds of 75 and 71.

Steve Luminais of Reserve, who was first in the 16-17 age group and second overall at the Junior Championships, shot a 7-over 151 with rounds of 76 and 75. Riverside teammate Michael Schoen had rounds of 81 and 73for a 154.

Nick Guidry of Abbeville shot a even-par 144 with rounds of 74 and 70 to win the tournament. New Iberia’s Avery Vincent was a shot back with a71-75-145.

Bergeron, Luminais and Schoen played in the Louisiana Junior Amateur Tournament this week as well.

MILLER-SHIRRON TEAM PLACES SECOND – LAPLACE – The Riverlands Country Club team of Rick Miller and Greg Shirron placed second at the LPGA Pro-Assistant Championship held July 10 at Riverlands Country Club.

Miller and Shirron shot a 65. The team of Ed Selser and Olly Thomson fromTimberlane Country Club placed first with a 65. Tim Hogan and Joey Mizellof Money Hill Country Club were third with a 67 Miller also teamed with Jeff Delange to shoot a 68 and tie for fourth place. Dave Marchand and Shannon Caverly of Sherwood Forest, CliffWagner and Tyler Hill of Oakbourne Country Club, Greg Core and Derrick Sanders of Metairie Country Club and Tim Hogan and Duke Gennusa of Money Hill Country Club also shot 68s.
