Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy still has spots open for its summer gymnastics camp. The camp will run through August 17.Beginners are welcomed. Before and after care is available. The Louisiana Soccer Association will hold is 23rd annual general meeting Saturday and Sunday at the Holiday Inn and the Lafreniere Park soccer fields in Metairie.

Free workshops will be conducted for coaches, administrators and referees. The guest clinician is John Ellinger, a U.S. Soccer national staffcoach and the head coach of the U-17 men’s national team. He is also theassistant coach for the men’s Olympic team which has qualified for Sydney 2000.

Special Olympic athletes and coaches will start bowling Saturday at Riverbend Lanes in LaPlace from noon till 3 p.m.This is a for fun bowling program. Participants can bring a friend andregister to win a free bowling ball. Athletes will need a current medicalon file.

Athletes will bowl two games each on Saturday, July 22, 29, Aug. 5, 12and 19. The cost is $1 per game. On Aug. 26, athletes and coaches willbowl three games and enjoy a pizza party. Awards will be presented to themost improved male and female. An athlete must bowl all 15 games inorder to participate in the pizza party. All score sheets must be given toMollie Naquin.

Area bowling will be held at Riverbend Lanes on Nov. 18, and Creole Lanesin Houma on Dec. 9. The district bowling event will be held at Fazzio lanesin Gretna on Jan. 12-13, 2001. Special Olympic athletes must bowl atleast 15 games to register for area.

The Patti Poirrier Amato Benefit Golf Classic will be held Monday at Pelican Point Golf Course in Gonzales.

The four-man scramble will have a shotgun start with 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.tee times. The entrance fee is $00 per team or $100 per individual. Lutcher High School will hold its annual football camp for ages 7-13 at the school the week of July 25-28 from 9 a.m. To noon daily.The camp is the oldest football camp in the River Parishes. The fee is $40and will include instructions at all positions, camp T-shirt, Iron Boy contest, touch games, punt, pass and kick, chalk talk, films, flexibility exercises, etc.

Registration will be held Monday, July 24, at the Dogs’ Den from 9 a.m. to5 p.m. The St. Charles Catholic Comets Football Camp for ages 7-13 willbe held at the school July 25-28 from 9 a.m. till noon.The cost of the camp is $50. Registration will be held Monday, July 24,from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the SCC CometPlex.The camp includes instruction at all positions, weight lifting, camp T- shirt, highlight films, Iron Boy contest, touch football games, skill tests, races and punt, pass and kick contests.

The Destrehan Fighting Wildcats Football Camp will be held at the school for ages 7-14 July 25-28 from 9 a.m. to noon.Instruction will be provided at all postitions by the Destrehan coaching staff. The 2000 Millennium Basketball Camp will be held at West St. JohnHigh School July 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.The camp is conducted by Brian Lumar, Loyola’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder and the coach the 1997 and 2000 state champion Shaw Eagles. Lumar also is the coach the drilling experts Shaw Dribblers and theAAU Louisiana Jammers.

The camp includes divisions for boys and girls ages six to 15. All camperswill be taught, observed and corrected in all phases of basketball. Thecampers will be grouped according to age, gender and talent level.

Activities include practice sessions, 3-on-3 tournaments, 5-on-5 games and various shooting contests. Each camper will also receive their ownofficial Millennium basketball.

The cost of the camp is $75 if pre-registered and $85 for Monday walk- ups.

The Baton Rouge Soccer Association in conjunction with the Louisiana Soccer Association is hosting a “D” level coaching license course for coaches of U15 to U19 teams July 21-23 and 29 and 30 at the BRSA office in Baton Rouge.

The course is open to all coaches but some prerequisites do apply. Adetailed schedule will be available upon registration. The cost is $75 forcoaches affiliated to the state association and $90 for those non- affiliated. AAU will conduct baseball and softball evaluations in the following cities in the last two weeks of July and each weekend in August: Houston, Dallas, Tulsa, Okla., Little Rock, Ark., Jackson, Miss., and Monroe.The camps are designed to aid and educate the athletes and their parents on how to better their chances of playing baseball or softball at the pro or collegiate level. The camps will be conducted by college coaches and proscouts.

Each athlete will receive a written evaluation and a seminar that will explain methods on how to be seen, academic requirements and other topics. Each athlete’s evaluation will be put into a catalog and sent to allcollege coaches and pro organizations.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.

The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of thegold card will also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in-school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievementand its 900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over 140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
