LAPLACE – LaPlace Little League defeated Marksville, 9-8, Sunday afternoon at NOAH Park to capture the 7-8-year-old district tournament.

LaPlace now advances to the state tournament scheduled to begin July 7 at Marksville. Marksville, as the second place team, also advances to state.LaPlace opened the tournament with a 16-0 victory over Bogalusa Saturday morning in a game pushed back a day because of rain. LaPlace then cameback Saturday afternoon to defeat Marksville, 11-5, to advance to the championship game.

Marksville had defeated Avoyelles American, 1-0, in the first game. Afterthe loss to LaPlace, Marksville came back with an 8-1 victory over Avoyelles American.
