Worry, such a terrible word; yet, it is probably one that is a little too familiar to us all. We worry about the big things, the little things and everything inbetween. We worry about if we’ll get the job, if the bills will get paid, if we’llbe on time, if we’ll make the grade, if we’ll meet “the one,” if we’ll measure up.
You see, every situation is one that could be worried about, but it doesn’t have to be.
A friend of mine is reading this book. In it there is a section about worrying. Thebook says that nine out of 10 things we worry about never come to pass. I thinkthe book is probably true. I went to freshman orientation at SLU this past week.I was worried about scheduling my classes. I had heard people talking about howmost of the freshman classes were already full. Sure enough, when I got to thecomputer, the first 15 classes I typed in were full. At this point you would becorrect to assume that I was just a tad bit more worried – OK, I was freaking out! But, in the end my worry did not profit me at all. Everything eventuallyworked out, and I ended up with a better schedule than I could have ever thought of. All my worry did was make my journey a less enjoyable one.I know this theory of not worrying is one that is easier said than done. But if wejust had some way of knowing for sure that everything would work out it, it would be easier not to worry.
Well, good news, here it is: God says, in Matthew 6, “Do not worry about your life(v. 25) Your heavenly Father even takes care of the little birds. Are you notmuch more valuable than they?(v. 26) Who of you by worrying can add a singlehour to his life?(v. 27)”So, we can be assured that there is no need to worry by simply reading and believing the Word of God. God’s truth will make us free from worry. If you have any questions or comments, write to me at P.O. Box 1493, LaPlace,LA 70069.
