Crosslin, Ursin named all-State

BATON ROUGE – Rusty Crosslin and Damian Ursin helped Lutcher to the District 9-3A championship and a berth in the state quarterfinals in 2000.
Both were recently honored for their accomplishments by being named to the Louisiana Sportswriters Association’s Class 3A all-State baseball team.
Crosslin, the District 9-3A MVP, batted .421 with four home runs and 18runs batted in while playing second base for the Bulldogs in 2000. On themound, he went 7-2 with a 2.78 earned run average and 53 strikeouts in 411/3 innings. Crosslin signed with Pearl River College this week.Ursin, an all-District 9-3A first-team selection, batted .324 with two homeruns, eight doubles and 24 RBIs as a catcher. As a pitcher, he went 10-1 witha 2.47 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings. He has signed to play forSouthern.
Named to the All-State honorable mention team were St. Charles Catholic’sJason LaPorte and Mike Mustian. LaPorte, who was named first-team all-District 9-3A at pitcher, went 6-2 with a 1.89 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 51innings. Mustian, a first-team all-district selection, batted .340 with 18 RBIsas an outfielder.
Teurlings Catholic senior pitcher Jered Salazar, who defeated Lutcher in the playoffs, was named the Class 3A MVP. Salazar, who was the Class 2A MVPin 1999, went 12-3 with a 1.13 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 99 1/3 innings.Boyd Hebert, who led E.D. White to a third straight state title, was namedthe Class 3A Coach of the Year. E.D. White went 25-7, defeating Teurlingsfor the Class 3A title.
Joining Crosslin in the all-State infield were Caldwell first baseman Brandon Rogers, Grant shortstop Ryan Ingles and E.D. White third baseman JustinChiasson.
Ursin, who was named as a utility player, was joined by Kaplan’s Kip Faulk, Parkview’s Jeff Martinez and Pearl River’s Brandon Erwin.
Pitchers were Rapides’ Matt Peterson, E.D. White’s Derek Atkins and Rayne’sMark Alleman. E.D. White’s Jonathan Zeringue was the catcher. In the outfieldwere Notre Dame’s Danny Guidry, Jennings’ Ryan Chaisson and Benton’s Calvin Hall.
