LUCY – A Missouri man was killed early Friday morning when he was struck while walking across River Road.

Peter J. Wolters, 41, of West Plains, Mo., was traveling westbound onLouisiana Highway 18 in his 18-wheeler around 12:18 a.m. Wolters pulledhis truck to the side of the road and got out to check on a road sign.

According to Bryan Zeringue of Louisiana State Police Troop C, Wolters was walking across the road when he was struck in the eastbound lane by a 1984 Chevrolet Caprice driven by Earl Scott, 21, of Destrehan.

Wolters was pronounced dead on the scene.

Scott and his passenger, Chad Gordon, 17, of Hahnville were not injured in the accident.

Both of the men were using their seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the incident. No charges were filed against Scott, but the crash is stillunder investigation.
