Kidnapping arrest may clear cases

HAHNVILLE – A New Sarpy man was charged Wednesday with one of two recent armed robbery and kidnapping incidents in the Montz area.

Ulysses Joseph, 34, 817 Terrace St., is charged with armed robbery andsecond-degree kidnapping and remains in custody at the St. CharlesCorrectional Center.

Capt. Patrick Yoes related that on May 7 at 7:15 a.m., a 23-year-old LaPlaceman was fishing at Prescott Canal, north of Airline Highway, Montz, when he was approached by a black male riding a green mountain bicycle.

The stranger produced a large, black-handled kitchen knife and demanded a ride into LaPlace.

After forcing the victim to load the bicycle into the car’s truck, the stranger robbed the victim of his wallet containing $80. The suspect was dropped offat Elm and West Fifth streets in LaPlace and fled in an unknown direction.

Yoes said Joseph also remains a suspect in a May 4 incident where a 22-year- old Montz man was kidnapped at a convenience store on Hollywood Park Drive, Montz.

In this incident a black male got into the victim’s car, produced a blue-steel semiautomatic handgun and demanded a ride into LaPlace.

As the victim drove the man into LaPlace he was robbed of $51. Thestranger then got out at Phoenix Lane and fled in an unknown direction.

That suspect was described as being 6 feet in height, weighing 170 pounds, and wearing khaki pants and blue-and-white pinstriped shirt.
