Reward offered in cabbie murder case

LAPLACE – The St. John Sheriff’s Office is seeking any clues and informationleading to the arrest of the person or persons who murdered LaPlace cab driver Janice Fugate on April 23.

Crimestoppers is also offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for this homicide.

Police discovered Fugate’s abandoned car less than a mile from her house early Easter Sunday morning, then went to her home on Cambridge Drive and found that her back door had been forced open. During a search of theresidence officers discovered Fugate’s body. St. John Parish Coroner Dr.Christy Montegut said Fugate had been strangled.

There was also evidence that the house had been burglarized.
