St. John falls to to N.O. in title game

WICHITA, Kan. – The St. John Parish Warriors came up just short in their bidto repeat their National Biddy Basketball title this week.

The New Orleans Fire held on for a 53-50 victory over the Warriors Wednesday in the International Biddy Basketball Tournament AA Division championship game.

The Warriors had captured the 11-year-old championship a year ago.

St. John rallied from a 25-17 halftime deficit to pull to within 49-48 on adrive by Demond Carter with 1:49 left. But Carter’s 3-point attempt thatwould have tied the game at 53 bounced off the backboard at the buzzer.

Carter earned All-American honors after scoring a game-high 20 points.

In the A division, the St. Charles Parish All-Stars captured the title with a57-50 victory over Plaquemine. Plaquemine had earlier defeated the All-Stars, 52-51, to force a second championship game.
