St. James authorities investigating third murder of 2000

SOUTH VACHERIE – A 40-year-old man was shot and killed after he was surprised by a gunman at a South Vacherie car wash last Thursday night.

Keith Williams, 40, of 19506 Mimosa Lane, South Vacherie, died Friday at 12:42 p.m. as a result of his injuries. A friend, Huey Oubre, 55, of 19450Beech St., was also shot and is reported by Thibodaux Regional MedicalCenter to be in their Intensive Care Unit in fair condition.

St. James Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. reported that his office received a call Thursday at 11:36 p.m. from a motorist driving down Louisiana Highway 20, who reported a man trying to flag her down. A deputy dispatched to thescene found Williams on the side of the highway suffering from two gunshot wounds, one in the shoulder and one in the abdomen.

Williams told the deputy that his friend Oubre was still in a nearby cane field, and the two gunshot victims were taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

Williams told investigators that while at a carwash on Louisiana Highway 643, two men forced him and Oubre into his car at gunpoint. They weresoon shot and left along Louisiana Highway 20. The two suspects then fledin Williams’s 1995 two-door Cadillac El Dorado, described as red with a white vinyl top.

Martin added that his detectives have met with the St. John Sheriff’sDepartment to analyze similarities between this and the carjacking of Joshua Sanders, who was killed Monday in LaPlace as his car was stolen.

This is the third homicide case in St. James Parish this year.
