The St. John Parish Recreation Department is holding registration forT-ball, ages 5-6, at the Recreation Department office behind the Percy Hebert Building. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration deadline isApril 17. The department is also looking for umpires to work games. Formore information, call the Recreation Department at 652-9569.
The St. Charles Parish Special Olympic Volleyball team needsvolleyball players to compete against it and to play as unified partners. Thepractice is held Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the TransAmerican gym. Anyquestions call 783-5090.
Ascension of Our Lord is holding registration for its summer baseball program, tomorrow and Sunday April 16, from 12:30-3 p.m. in the schoollobby. Registration will be for boys’ and girls’ T-ball, ages 4, 5 and 6; boys’baseball, ages 7-9 years old; boys’ baseball 10-13 years old; girls’ cabbage ball, ages 7-9; girls’ cabbage ball, ages 10-13; and girls’ softball, ages 10-13.
The St. Charles Catholic High School Varsity Alumni is sponsoring amixed cabbageball tournament April 30 on the St. Charles Catholic campus.The cost of registration is $75. Belle Terre Country Club head golf professional Bob Hasbrouck is doing a free clinic open to all golfers and covering all the basics Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Call Belle Terre at 652-5000 to register. Hasbrouck is alsodoing a clinic covering all aspects of the game for the Golf Digest/PGA of America’s “Free Lession Month” on May 20 at 1 p.m. LSU baseball players and coaches will conduct instructional clinics through April at the facilities of youth baseball organizations. The clinics areoffered as a community service to players seeking to improve their skills.
The baseball clinics feature LSU players and coaches offering instruction in all facets of the game, including hitting, pitching and fielding.
Youth baseball groups wishing to schedule a clinic should call the LSU baseball office at (225) 388-4148. Available clinic dates are limited, however, LSU willaccommodate as many requests as possible.
The LSU AgCenter is holding two Parents and Chidren’s Kamps this spring at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock.
The first will be held April 14-16 and is open to mothers and their children.
The second is May 19-21 and is open to fathers and their children. The campis especially for parents and children between the ages of 9 and 12 and will focus on enhancing family relationships through activities such as canoeing, archery, fishing, shooting and orienteering taught by trained instructors.
The registration fee is $70 for each parents and child – $35 for each additional child. The fee covers meals, lodging and supplies used for theweekend. For more information and for an application, contact your countyagent’s office.
The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.
The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of the gold cardwill also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card isvalid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in- school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievement and its900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over 140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.
Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free. The vehiclewill be recycled into the funds needed to support the year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally-retarded children and adults in Louisiana.
Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title.
Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction as the fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
