Chanel School will hold spring festival

PAULINA – The St. Peter Chanel Spring Festival will be held this weekend,March 24-26.
The festival begins Friday at 5:30 p.m., continues Saturday at 2:30 p.m. andis open Sunday at 10 a.m. It will be held at St. Peter Chanel and St.Joseph’s Church grounds on River Road in Paulina Admission is free. Parking on the school grounds is also free. There willbe rides, games and home-cooked food all weekend. This will be a non-alcoholic festival.
Friday night features seafood gumbo and fish dinners prepared by dozens of well-known local chefs. This continues into Saturday with spaghettiand meatballs, jambalaya and other foods. Sunday’s special is a bakedchicken lunch.
Special events happen throughout the weekend. New events include apaint-ball shooting range and a baseball/softball clinic and a Saturday night teen dance. Favorite festival events over the last few years includea 5K Fun Run, a woman-less beauty pageant, breakfast with the Easter Bunny and a car show.
The baseball/softball clinics will be held at the Lutcher High School field.
The baseball clinic is from 8-10 a.m. Saturday. On Sunday morning, thesoftball clinic will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Pre-registration isencouraged because of limited capacity. Little league coaches areencouraged to bring their teams to learn proper form and technique. Costis $10 until March 24, then $12.
The 5K Run/Walk/Blade will start at 8 a.m. The 5K route this year startsand finishes at the KC Hall in Gramercy. Dance and martial arts groupswill perform from 3-5 p.m. at the festival. Immediately following thesedemonstrations, local area queens from other festivals and pageants will be introduced.
At 6 p.m. is “Les Jolie Garson,” a Woman-less beauty pageant featuringyoung high school men from the River Parishes. The teen dance under theentertainment tent begins at 7 p.m. This is a chaperoned event with softdrinks and party food available.
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny is Sunday at 9 a.m. and includesbreakfast, entertainment, a photo with the Easter Bunny and a walking toddler Easter parade through the festival. This is followed by a car showfrom noon until 4 p.m. at the festival grounds. The car show is open to allvintage and custom vehicles, and registration starts at 10 a.m.For those considering going to the festival for more than just one day, the pay-one-price weekend bracelets are $25 in advance. Individual POPbracelets are available each day on-site.
