Godchaux rolls past Lady Gators

LAPLACE – Leon Godchaux Junior High never trailed, cruising to an victory at cross-parish rival Glade School Tuesday afternoon.
Leon Godchaux jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a put back by Nikita Robertson and free throws by Whitney Chatman and Kojoaugna Esko. After a put backby Trenell Smith gave the Lady Gators their first points, Esko found Chatman inside. Esko then hit a jumper from the top of the key to make it 8-2 with3:09 left in the first quarter.
The lead grew to 14-2 with 1:12 left in the quarter on a jumper by Brashonad Bailey. After Trenese Smith scored inside, Chatman hit a jumper from theright baseline and drove in for a second score to make it 18-4 at the end of the quarter.
Chatman converted a three-pointer after a put back to increase the lead to 25-6. After a put back by Chatman, Ericka White grabbed a rebound andfound Bailey. Bailey then threw deep to Chatman who drove in, increasing thelead to 29-6 with 3:05 left in the half.
A put back and a drive by Trenell Smith cut the deficit to 31-12 but Esko came back with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it 34-12 at the half.
A jumper from the left wing by Robertson gave the Lady Wildcats a 36-12 advantage early in the second half. But the Lady Gators came right back withput backs by Dana Mason and Trenese Smith. Trenell Smith followed withconsecutive 3-pointers to bring the Lady Gators to within 40-22 with 1:51 remaining in the third quarter. Chatman followed a hook shot by TrenellSmith with a put back at the buzzer to make it 43-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
The action heated up early in the fourth quarter as the teams combined to score on six straight possessions. Chatman opened the run with a drive infor a layup. Mason answered with a put back but Chatman came right back bytaking a pass from Esko downcourt and driving in. Trenell Smith hooked inanother shot before Esko drove in from the right side. A drive by TreneseSmith ended the run and made it 49-30 with four minutes left.
