Locals named academic all-State

BATON ROUGE – Jaclyn Witmer of Hahnville and Amy Hebert and Lindsay Louque of Lutcher lead the local contingent on the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Academic All-State Volleyball team released this week.

Witmer, Hebert and Louque were selected to the composite All-State team, made up of players who scored the highest in their respective sport and division/Class. The three all achieved 4.0 grade point averages during theirhigh school careers and are among 22 student-athletes so honored across the state in volleyball.

Members of the composite squad will receive special recognition at the 2000 LHSAA-LHSCA Hall of Fame Banquet and induction ceremonies scheduled for tonight at The Convention Center of the Radisson Hotel in Baton Rouge beginning at 6:30 p.m.To qualify for an All-Academic, All-State team, a student-athlete must have achieved a three-year cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must have beenselected for at least one all-District honor. Additionally, each member schoolprincipal is afforded the opportunity of nominating at least two academically deserving individuals who did not receive all-District honors. This year, 203athletes received recognition in volleyball.

Witmer, Hebert and Louque also made the All-State team in their respective divisions, Witmer in Division I and Hebert and Louque in Division III.

In Division I (5A), Theresa Cambre of East St. John was selected to thehonorable mention team. Cambre compiled a 3.0731 GPA in her career withthe Lady Cats.

Lutcher’s Breeze Vicknair joined her teammates on the Division III (3A) All- State team, achieving a 3.8333 GPA. St. Charles Catholic’s Cristin Clementalso made the all-State team with a 3.9523 GPA.Both the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Comets placed two on the Division III honorable mention team. Lutcher had Toni Riley, who had a 3.7143 GPA, andCandace Keller, who achieved a 3.5714 GPA. Marci Martin, with a 3.5000 GPAand Nicole Scontrino with a 3.1363, made the team for the Lady Comets.Brandi Falgoust was a Division IV (2A) All-State selection from Riverside after achieving a 3.6888 GPA. Three of her teammates – Jennifer Guidry,Amie Graugnard and Jennifer Smith – were named honorable mention. Guidryhad a 3.5222 GPA, Graugnard a 3.4111 and Smith a 3.3928.Reserve Christian placed two on the Division V (A, B, C) honorable mention team. Shelly Ford had a 3.2856 GPA while Brittany Dufrene was selectedafter achieving a 3.1428.
