Parquet, Wishom verbally commit

DESTREHAN – Destrehan all-State offensive lineman Jeremy Parquet and Lutcher all-district running back Jerron Wishom became the latest River Parishes recruits making a decision on their futures in football.

Parquet verbally committed to Southern Mississippi last week, joining East St. John’s DeQuincy Scott and Hahnville’s Karone Champagne on theEagles’ football team. East St. John’s Clement Carter is also a member ofthe Southern Mississippi basketball team after signing last Spring.

Parquet helped Destrehan to a school-record fourth-straight district title in 1999. The Wildcats finished 8-3, losing to Holy Cross in the bi-districtplayoffs.

The 6-7, 335-pound senior helped the Wildcats pass for 3,079 yards and rush for another 1,242. Parquet was selected to both the Louisiana SportsWriters Association and coaches Class 5A all-State first teams. He wasalso an all-district, all-Metro and all-River Parishes selection for the second straight season.

Parquet selected Southern Mississippi over LSU and Louisiana Tech after making a visit there.

“Southern Miss became the best place for me,” Parquet said. “It was great.Everybody talked to me was nice. It reminded me of home and made mefeel comfortable.”Parquet, who plans to major in business management, also liked the academic program and that the school was close to home. He is fullyqualified academically.

Wishom verbally committed to Louisiana Tech, joining former Bulldogs receiver Allen Stark there. Wishom was a second-team all-District 9-3Aselection after helping Lutcher to its first outright District 9-3A title since 1983. Lutcher finished the season at 9-3, losing to Teurlings inregionals.

Wishom was the second-leading rusher on the Bulldogs with 516 yards and two touchdowns on 85 carries. He also caught 23 passes for 247 yards andtwo touchdowns.

Parquet and Wishom joined West St. John’s Donriel Louis who verballycommited to LSU over the summer.
