Inauguration activities planned Monday

Inauguration ceremony plans have been announced throughout the River Parishes. Events are scheduled for Monday.

St. John Parish

10 a.m.-11 a.m. – An inaugural mass will be held at the St. John theBaptist Catholic Church in Edgard.

Noon – The swearing-in ceremony for the parish president, clerk of court, assessor and members of the Parish Council at the Edgard Courthouse.

1 p.m. – The Parish Council will hold its first meeting which is purelyorganizational at the Edgard Courthouse.

1:30 p.m. – A reception for all new and old parish officials will be heldin the Westside Firehouse directly behind the Edgard Courthouse.

7 p.m.-10 p.m. – An Inaugural Gala is planned at East St. John ElementarySchool. All citizens are invited.

St. James Parish

10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. – An inaugural mass will be held at St. MichaelChurch in Convent.

Noon – The swearing-in ceremony for the parish president, clerk of court, assessor and members of the Parish Council will be held at the Convent Courthouse. Judge John Peytavin will be presiding.

12:30 p.m. – The St. James Parish Council will hold a meeting at theConvent Courthouse.

A reception for the new officials is scheduled to follow directly after the council meeting and will be open to the public.

St. Charles Parish

10 a.m. – An inaugural mass is planned at Our Lady of the Most HolyRosary Catholic Church in Hahnville.

11:30 a.m. – The swearing in ceremony for parish president and ParishCouncil members will be held at the Hahnville Courthouse, presided over by Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Edward Dufresne Jr. and 29thJudicial District Judge Emile St. Pierre.Following the swearing-in ceremony, an organizational meeting will be held in the council chamber, where the chairman and vice-chairman will be selected by the council members.

A reception will follow that organizational meeting, and the council’s first business meeting is set Tuesday at 6 p.m.
