Traffic stop leads to chase, drug arrests

HAHNVILLE – A New Orleans man led St. James Parish deputies on a chaseThursday evening to St. Charles Parish, where he was arrested with twokilos of cocaine.
St. James deputy Billy Jordan stopped Charles Logan Jr., 29, of 4317 S.Derbigny St., on Interstate 10. At the scene, Jordan’s certified drugdetection dog, “Rocky,” alerted on the vehicle and Jordan spotted the drugs in the trunk.
At that moment, Logan jumped back into the vehicle and fled, leading officers on a chase where speeds exceeded 120 mph into St. CharlesParish, onto Interstate 310 and to Airline Highway and St. Rose Avenue,where he attempted to flee from three separate hit-and-run crashes.
The driver then lost control of his vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, at 9:45 p.m., and jumped into the roadside canal in a further attempt atescaping. Instead, he was captured and taken into custody by statetroopers.
He was charged with aggravated flight from an officer and possession of cocaine. Bond was set at $200,000 by 29th Judicial District Judge KirkGranier.
