All facets of game helping DHS to 3-0 start in district

DESTREHAN – With the offenses bogged down by the weather conditions Friday night, Destrehan used a time-honor formula to come away with a 26-6 victory over Central Lafourche – defense and special teams.

The Wildcats held the Trojans to 207 yards and forced two turnovers and the special teams blocked one punt and tipped two others to keep Destrehan (5-1 overall) undefeated in three District 7-5A games.

Ivan Mashia completed 5-of-11 passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in the game. Mashia also scored on a 2-yard run. Deron Love led the Wildcats with46 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Love improved his team-hightotals to 530 yards and seven touchdowns on 93 carries. Mashia is alsoamong the River Parishes leaders with 665 yards and eight touchdowns through the air.

Destrehan will be looking to go 4-0 in district play when it travels to South Terrebonne this Friday.

The Gators dropped a final-minute 22-15 decision to Hahnville Friday night, falling to 0-2 in district and 2-4 overall. Joseph Cooper, a juniorwingback, scored twice for the Gators.

South Terrebonne finished with 260 yards rushing but was held to minus 1 yard passing, lost four fumbles and was intercepted once. The finalfumble, on a punt return, led to Hahnville’s winning score in the final minute.

Cooper and senior fullback Craig Duplantis lead the Gators’ wing-T attack.

Sophomore quarterback Jonathan Aucoin will be looking to tight ends Chad Mazerac and Brian Carlos and split end Jason Dupre. Seniors AnthonyTimperio and Westley Belanger lead the offensive line.

Hahnville ripped through the South Terrebonne defense for 222 rushing yards and 72 yards through the air but the Gators were able to hold the Tigers to 14 points until the final minute.

That defense is led by its line of LaRonya Aubert and Derek Chelette and by Mazerac at linebacker. The defensive backfield will be led by seniorsMyles Lecompte and Scott Domangue.

Destrehan travels to South Lafourche in District 7-5A play next Friday.
