Riverside drives to win over E.D. White, 21-13

RESERVE – When two 5-0 champions clash one will fall. E.D. White walkedoff the field losing their 5-0 ranking in game that left 21-13 on the board and Riverside Academy cheering in victory.

Riverside improved to 6-0 on the season. On a fantastic punt return,Riverside’s Bradly Hodges made a 52-yard run for the first touchdown of the game. Though Gary Entremont was tackled before he can make thetwo-point conversion, the crowd knew the game was off to a great start.

Riverside started off its third push for the end zone with heart-stopping 81-run by Casey Remondet down the right side of the field. Remondet wasstopped short of the goal line, with a great tackle at the 2-yard line by E.D. White’s, Nick Grabert. Riverside’s quarterback, Damian Melancon, finished off the drive with the touchdown. Two more points are put on the board as Entremont makes thetwo-point conversion, putting Riverside at 14-0 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter E.D. White completed a long drive, passing andrushing successfully for their first touchdown. J.J. Tabor, E.D. White’squarterback, carried the ball in 12 yards to put much needed numbers on the board. The extra point by Justin Verret was good and, the scoreremained 14-7 at halftime.

Through heavy rain E.D. White drove to the end zone halfway through thethird quarter. With a recovered fumble and a sack weighing on his mind,Tabor finished the drive with a 13-yard run up the middle. Riverside’sRichie Hymel blocked Verret’s extra point kick, keeping E.D. White under at14-13.Possession traded between the two teams until two minutes into the third quarter. With Riverside pushing hard against E.D. White’s 24-yard line, anillegal motion penalty and a run stopped hard by E.D. White’s defense setRiverside back to fourth-amd-10. Taking a daring chance, Melancon passedto Jeff Rocaforte, who takes it to the 4-yard line. Remondet rushes forthe touchdown and Kaleb Mayes follows through with a successful kick.

Riverside hosts West St. John next week in District 9-2A action in arematch of last season’s Class 2A state championship game.
