Hahnville takes passing attack against Gators

BOUTTE – The Hahnville Tigers will take their aerial attack up against South Terrebonne’s ground game this week as the teams clash in a District 7-5A battle Friday night.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.Both teams are coming off losses in district play last Friday. Hahnvillelost its third straight, 28-25, to Central Lafourche, dropping the Tigers to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in district play. South Terrebonne (2-3 overall), lostits district opener to South Lafourche, 20-7.

Hahnville grabbed a 10-7 lead at the break on a 1-yard run by Darryl Honor and a 33-yard field goal by Kade Rogers. Central Lafourche got its pointson a 3-yard pass from Andy Griffin to Darius Griffin. Hahnville increasedits lead to 17-7 on a 3-yard run by Honor in the third quarter before Central Lafourche pulled to within three on a 22-yard run by Darius Griffin Griffin then gave the Trojans the lead by picking off a Dawan Landry pass and returning it 26 yards for a score. A second interception led to a 4-yardrun by Al Brown, making it 28-17 in the fourth quarter.

Hahnville came back with a 19-yard pass from Landry to Corey Woods and a two-point conversion pass from Landry to Mark Young, cutting the deficit to 28-25. The Tigers then attempted an on-side kick but theTrojans recovered to preserve the victory.

Honor led the way for the Tigers, carrying 20 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Landry completed 9-of-27 passes for 150 yards. The Tigersfinished the game with 340 yards in offense, 190 on the ground.

Hahnville has been doing much of its damage through the air, however.

Landry is one of the top passers in the River Parishes, throwing for 943 yards and 11 touchdowns through the first five games. Young had ninecatches for 205 yards and three touchdowns going into last Friday’s contest.

South Terrebonne is led by its wing-T rushing attack of senior fullback Craig Duplantis and junior wingback Joseph Cooper which gained over 100 yards against South Terrebonne. Cooper led the way with 14 carries for 61yards. Duplantis added a 1-yard touchdown run. Jason Dupre is the mainreceiver.

Like Hahnville, the Gators gave up an interception return for a touchdown in their loss and were held to 44 yards passing. The South Terrebonnedefense, led by its defensive line of Young, Laronya Aubert and Derek Chellette and linebacker Chad Mazerac, held South Lafourche to five yards passing but gave up 227 yards on the ground.

Hahnville travels to South Lafourche in District 7-5A action next Friday.
