Arabi woman killed in wreck on Airline

GRAMERCY – An Arabi woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Sunday on Airline Highway.

Trooper Doug Cain, public information officer for Louisiana State Police Troop A, reported that a white 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, northbound on Louisiana Highway 641, entered the Airline Highway intersection and struck the right rear tires of a westbound Schneider tank truck at 1:38 p.m.Driver Terri Gernados, 45, and passenger, Leora Gernados, 77, both of New Orleans, were extracted from the vehicle and transported to River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace.

Passenger Margaret Baleis, 79, of Arabi, died at the scene, according to St.

James Parish Coroner Dr. Carl Poche.Gernados apparently ran the red traffic light and struck the truck on the passenger side. Truck driver Toby Vallian, 30, of Larose, was not injured.Charges are expected against Gernados, Cain said, following the investigation.
