Central Lafourche tops Hahnville

BOUTTE – Hahnville’s Tigers lost a 28-25 heartbreaker to long-time rival Central Lafourche in a tightly-fought contest Friday.

The Trojans scored first blood with 28 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a 3-yard pass from Andy Griffin to Darian Griffin.

The David Ponson PAT was good for the 7-0 first quarter lead.

In the second quarter, Darryl Honor rebounded for the Tigers and scored on a 1-yard run with 9:47 remaining in the half. Kade Rogers nailed the PATto knot the score at seven.

Then, with 6:48 remaining in the half, Rogers enabled Hahnville to pull ahead with a 33-yard field goal.

In the third quarter, Honor again scored for Hahnville on a 2-yard run with 9:51 remaining. Rogers’ PAT nudged the Tigers up to a 17-7 lead. However,Central’s Trojan Darian Griffin posted another TD with 6:36 left to the period. Again the PAT was good, and Central Lafourche had narrowed thegap to 17-14.

In the high-scoring fourth quarter, the action began at 7:48 left to the game as Darian Griffin intercepted and returned the ball for 28 yards.

Again, the PAT was good and Central had taken the lead again with 21-17.

Central’s Al Brown then scored on a 4-yard run with 4:25 left to the game, and the PAT bumped the score to 28-17 in the Trojans’ favor.

But the Tigers, though down, weren’t out yet. With 1:36 left in the game,Dawan Landry fired a 14-yard pass to Corey Woods for the touchdown.

Then, on the two-point coversion, Landry connected in the end zone with Mark Young, narrowing the gap to 28-25.
